Adding and Subtracting fractions requires you to find a common denominator. Multiplying and dividing requires you to make them all fractions before you begin. Knowing your math facts well will help with all operations!

To Add /Subtract:

If the denominators are not the same, find a common denominator. Rewrite the fractions with this denominator.

Add/subtract the numerators and keep the denominator. Borrow if necessary. Add the whole numbers. Simplify the answer.

To multipkly/divide:

Make all numbers fractions. If dividing, change the division sign to multiplication and flip the fraction after the sign. Reduce if possible. Multiply numerators. Multiply denominators. Simplify the answer.

General Study Tips

Pick a quiet spot where you will not be distracted. Try to do your work at the same time every day. Sometimes it helps to work with a friend (Working with a friend does not mean copying each others' work. It means sharing ideas.:)
